Marlene A. Avery

OLD TOWN—Marlene A. (Richards) Avery, 84 , died December 13, 2022 at a local hospital. She was born December 18, 1937 in old town a daughter of Leo and Lelia (Nadeau) Richards.

She will be remembered for her love of bingo and solitaire, camping, especially at Abanaki campground in Skowhegan, crafting and sewing. She will fondly be remembered for her great sense of humor, and was always the jokester. A lifelong resident of French Island, she and Robert Avery were married February 7, 1959, and she remained at home to be a devoted wife, mother, memere, great memere, and caregiver to other family members. She enjoyed going out to eat and especially getting a hot fudge sundae. She loved all John Wayne movies. The last four years of her life she enjoyed her time at Westgate Manor.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L Avery of 63 years; four children Ann Avery, Angela Gilley and her husband, Shawn, Debra Wardwell, and her husband, DB, and Diane Williams, and her husband, Keith; grandchildren, Tim and Brittany Avery, Kortlyn, Izabelle, Justice And Peter Gilley, Braylee and Nickolas Wardwell, Zachary and Taylor Williams; great grandchildren, Adrianne Ferland and Hendrix Avery; brothers, Gordon (Gee Gee) and Thomas (Marie) Richards, and Paul (Judy) Ouellette, and sister, Patricia (Bob) Lyons; sister-in-law Cathy Richards; many in-laws on the Avery side Barbara Avery, Arlene Kennedy, Linda LeBlanc, Bunny Avery, and Richard Avery and their families; many nieces nephews and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by brothers, Ronald (Eleanor), Lester, James (Lillian) and Franklin Richards, and sister-in-law, Marie Richards.

Friends may call 1-3PM Friday December 16, 2022 at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St. Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at Parrish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parish of the Resurrection, 429 Main St., Old, Town, ME 04468. Spring burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery Old Town.
