Orono, Alton and Framingham, MA - Margaret B. Freeman, 92, passed peacefully on December 20, 2022. She was a resident at the Orono Commons Nursing Home since 2020. She was born in Milford, MA on July 14, 1930, a daughter of the late John and Christina (Ross) Main. She was the wife of the late Robert Freeman who passed in 2013.
Margaret grew up in Framingham, MA and was a graduate of Framingham High School. She entered the work force after high school and her first job was at the Town of Framingham Clerks Office. In 1966 she moved to Maine with her husband and children. She was employed at the University of Maine as a secretary serving in several departments including the Admissions Office, Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept., and Residential Life. She retired from the University of Maine in 1995 after serving for 29 years. She continued work after retirement at the Alton School lunch program, working the concessions at the Bangor Auditorium and then at Tuffy Bear Furniture in Glenburn. She was a great cook and had a countless supply of kitchen gadgets and cookware. Everyone loved her potato rolls which she made at all the holidays. She was a past member of the Old Town YMCA and participated in the swim program for several years. She enjoyed exercise, especially jogging and would jog before work several times a week at the University of Maine. She was an avid quilter and gifted many of her quilts to family. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Ladies of the Alton Methodist Women’s Club and helping the church with their monthly breakfast functions for several years.
Margaret was married to her husband, Robert Freeman, for 62 years when he passed. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Gomm and husband Stanley of Sun City Center, FL and her son, John Freeman and wife Michele of Alton; her grandchildren Andrew Gomm and wife Jodi of Bradley, Timothy Gomm and wife Brittany of Old Town, Ashley Freeman and companion Trenton Beliel of Edmond, OK, Lukas Freeman and wife Hilary of Alton and Kyle McDougal and wife Casey of Alton; great grandchildren, Makenzie, Aiden, Parker, Evan, Everly, Calihan, Jett and McKenna. She also is survived by her sister Mary DeShaw of Dennis, MA and Naples, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Christina Pelletier.
