Leo Felix Rossignol

Bangor and Old Town - Leo Felix Rossignol, 88, passed unexpectedly at a Bangor hospital on January 5, 2018, a mere two weeks after his beloved wife, Mae Rossignol. He was born in Old Town on November 5, 1929, the son of Fred J. and Bernice (Ashe) Rossignol.

Leo grew up in Old Town and joined the US Navy. He proudly served his country as a frontline medic during the Korean War. He completed two tours, spanning November of 1947 to 1952. Two years after he was discharged, he married Mae, and he continued to love and cherish her for 62 years.

Leo worked in many different capacities for James River Paper Mill, finishing with his engineering license, which enabled him to run the sewage treatment plant in Great Works. He was offered early retirement, which he accepted in order to pursue his hobbies. He obtained his private pilot license and bought a Cessna plane. Leo also worked as the Harbor Master for part of the Penobscot River for several years. Leo and Mae also enjoyed boating in the ocean in their cabin cruiser, which they moored in one of the small coves on the coast of Maine. He also loved spending time in the woods, be it hunting or fishing, and snowmobiling in the winter.

Leo was predeceased by his wife, Mae, whom he loved until his last breath; his parents, Fred and Bernice Rossignol; a special brother who faithfully visited Leo and Mae during their final years, Norman Rossignol, as well as two brothers who passed many years ago, Joseph and Fred Rossignol; and his sister, Dorothy "Dot" Chaisson. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Mackenzie and husband, Paul, of Punta Gorda, FL; son, John Rossignol of Fort Meyers, FL; grandson, Jesse Langlais and wife, Mary Beth, of North Carolina; sister, Rosemarie Hooks of Bradley; and a special niece, Diane Rowell; as well as several other extended family members.

Graveside services for both Leo and Mae will be announced in the spring.
