Eddington – Joan M. (Guay) Hocking, 81, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 11, 2023. Joan was born on April 21, 1942, in Bangor, the daughter of Ralph and Ester (Bouchard) Guay.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by one brother; two sisters and her beloved grandson, Connor J. Hocking.
Joan is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 62 years, David G. Hocking, her loving son, Gregory P. Hocking (Allyson) and her loving daughter Elizabeth A. Smith (Eric); four devoted grandchildren, Sarah R Hocking, Dawson M. Smith, Kaitlynn G. Hocking and Mollie A. Smith and a great grandson, Walker D. Hogan.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love of her family was beyond compare. She passed her love of gardening and animals down to her children and grandchildren. She loved all animals especially her birds and “Chippie.” Joan was a twenty-five year member of the Penobscot Valley Camping Association. A fifty year member of the T.O.P.S. organization. Joan will always be remembered for her kind, gentle soul and her willingness to help anyone in any way needed. She will be dearly missed by so many, but especially by her family and special friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10AM at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St., Old Town, Maine.
