ALTON—James E. Dowling, 78, died peacefully October 5, 2020 at his residence with family by his side. He was born September 30, 1942 in Bangor a son of Raymond Eugene and Margarette Ethel (Smith) Dowling.
He was a veteran having proudly served with the US Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing games and loved Harleys. He loved the special times spent with family. He was a member of the Old Town American Legion where he enjoyed time socializing with other members. He was employed for many years at the University of Maine, retiring in 1998. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and mischievous ways.
He is survived by his wife Jodie (Herbert) Dowling; children Angela Geroux and her husband Scott of Garland, Karen Stoddard of Greenbush, Scott Dorr and his wife Terri of Millinocket, Aimee Dowling and companion Calvin Jenkins of Alton, Mary Dowling and companion Ryan White of Alton, Angie Hazelton of Alton; grandchildren Nycole, Noelle, Sam, Nick, Tatyanna, Olivia, Grant, Katie, Brycen, Natalie, Alexis, and Tyler; sister Donna Dowling Green
He was predeceased by his parents and a grandson Cory Grenier
