Milford - Ty Dubois won the battle with heart disease and flew away with the angels on May 4, 2023. He went home to reunite with his wife of 58 years, Onida, a long-planned trip. He was 87 years strong. Ty will celebrate his next heavenly birthday on May 20 with his wife; his parents, Leon and Isabelle Dubois; and other close friends and family.
Ty was born in Fort Kent, where he graduated from high school. He married the love of his life, Onida, in 1953, and started a family with her. Ty was a man of strong faith, a loyal husband, and dedicated family man who had a heart of gold. He loved all his children with a deep unconditional love: Nancy Bledsoe of Swan Lake, MT, Phil Dubois and Barb Farell of Little River, SC, Terry Dubois of Milford, ME, and Diane Ludden and Stuart of St. Albans, ME.
Ty was a hard worker who took pride in his work. He pursued a long career as a meat manager, starting in Fort Kent, and leading to various stores in Houlton, Brewer and Old Town. What set Ty apart in the trade was his strong connection and dedication to his customers and his co-workers. He was known for his friendly demeanor. He was called upon for his excellent training skills for other meat managers across the state. Ty was a working manager and would not have anyone do tasks he would not do himself. His employees loved working for him and wanted to make him proud of their work. Eventually, heart disease forced him to officially retire from Hannaford Shop 'n Save in Old Town. He spent a few years working part-time at Paradis' in Brewer, just to keep up his cutting skills, although his favorite post-retirement gig was helping a family business to process many moose and deer in the fall.
Ty served in the National Guard for a decade and was a member of the Catholic Orders of Foresters. He was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Ty spent many an evening at the Old Town KC Hall for Beano nights, where he was the official winnings disburser. Attendees would love seeing him approach their table with a check.
In his younger years, Ty enjoyed running, adventures on his motorcycle, and the scenery of Maine. While
Ty loved a day on the golf course, he was more likely to be found fishing on his boat. Or maybe you might find him playing a quick game of cribbage with a nice cold beer. Family card games were his favorite pastime. Seven was the latest "go to" card game, but any card game was entertaining with Ty at the head of the table.
Ty was a great man, the best father and grandfather. He took his kids fishing and attended their school activities. Ty loved good food and family gatherings at his home with the entire family. He was never too full for a piece of pumpkin pie. His home was always full of love and laughter. He always had a joke ready; the laughs he got always gave him the biggest smile. Anyone who knew Ty knows that he always gave the best hugs. We were greeted with "Have you hugged a kid today?" followed with a great big hug, which made us feel so loved.
Ty spent many years at his beloved campground, Loon's Echo, on Eagle Lake in Aroostook County. For many years he was a caretaker of the grounds with his buddy, Neil; the grounds were spectacular. His family would often gather there for epic card games, fishing marathons, jokes, and stories. Some of his favorite visitors were his sister, Rita and Bert Collins of Newington, CT; his sister, Martha Landry of Meriden, CT; and brother, David and Theresa Dubois of Plainville, CT.
Ty is fondly remembered by 7 grandchildren: first grandchild, who held a special place in his heart, Michelle Stevens and Jamie of Corinth, ME, Brandi Guy of Houlton, ME, Andy Guy and Brandi of Swan Lake, MT, Nicole Crews and Tony of Bradley, ME, Sarah Stewart of Buxton, ME, and lastly, his two granddaughters, that were more like daughters to him, Danielle Cote and Anthony of Hermon, ME, and Brittany Borja and Jason Buck of Old Town, ME.
He is also fondly remembered by 13 great-grandchildren: Megan Whittine and Katrina Bowden of Freeport, ME, Elizabeth Underhill and Tony of Stetson, ME, Lindsay Stevens of Corinth, ME, Kristopher Albright and Charity of Houlton, ME, Kennedy Stoddard and Nathaniel of Omaha, NB, Katelynn Albright of Harmony, ME, Emma Crews of Bradley, ME, Sofie Stewart of Buxton, ME, Adalynn Cote of Hermon, ME, Nora and Lettie Borja-Buck of Old Town, ME, Seve Guy of Swan Lake, MT; and lastly, his great-grandson and birthday-twin, who held a special bond with him and Onida, Brayden Borja of Old Town, ME.
In the last years of Ty's life, his devotion to his faith became even stronger with daily Masses and prayer. In lieu of flowers, donations to Gentiva Bangor may be made. Funeral arrangements for Ty are being made to be held in July with hopes that the fishing is good.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday July 11, 2023, at 10:00 am at The Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Immediately following Mass, all are invited to a reception in the Parish Hall. Burial will follow at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
