Old Town on August 15, 2023. Lillian was born July 29, 1921 in Howland, Maine, the daughter of Lawrence and Annie Wallace Cousins. She graduated from Howland High School, attended Castine Normal School, and after her family moved to Hodge, LA, she graduated from Louisiana Tech, where she graduated with a degree in Physical Education.
After graduation, Lillian traveled to St. Louis, MO at the start of WWII to marry Donald H. McKay, her childhood sweetheart. After Don was deployed, Lil returned to Hodge, and moved back to Old Town when Don returned from the war.
They raised 3 children, and after they were all in school, Lillian taught for several years in Bradley, Great Works, and Old Town. She was a member of the Old Town United Methodist Church, and Our Neighborhood Club.
Lillian is survived by her children, Bonny (McKay) Freeman, and husband Jerry of Clifton, Maine, Dianne (McKay) Bouford, and husband Jim of Augusta, Maine, and Gary Hugh McKay, and his wife Kimberly of Interlachen, Florida.
She leaves six grandchildren, Jody, Kenneth, Michael, Miranda, Meghan, and Brandon; eight great grandchildren, Ian, Kellen, Kaelan, Curtis, Charlee, Cole, Zoe, and Leigha; one sister, Katherine Robinson of Hodge, LA; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor McKay, and Christine Cousins, and many special nieces and nephews.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband Donald, her parents, and nine siblings, Beatrice, Albert, Mary, Leona, Leola, Josephine, Lewis, Dennis and Jeanette.
She will be buried in a private ceremony at Lawndale Cemetery in Old Town, with a small celebration of her life at a later date. A special thanks to the staff at NL EMMC during her stay, and to the caring staff at Gentiva Hospice.
