Edward V. “Sonny” Buck, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, November 27, 2021, and in the care of his favorite nurse, his youngest daughter, Joanne. He was born September 9, 1939, the son of Edward V. Buck and Catherine A. (Deschamps) Buck.
Sonny was a graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School. After high school, he worked selling auto parts and washing cars until he got a job working as a mechanic for Dick Carlo, a job he held for many years. Eventually, he began working for Bangor Hydro as a diesel operator and continued with the company until his retirement, 23 years later.
Sonny loved attending auctions- especially the local Kiwanis auctions. He collected Model T’s and antique tractors and loved visiting the Antique Tractor and Engine Clubs across the state. Sonny was a true character who loved playing jokes. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help anyone he could. Sonny was a man full of knowledge and history, including his own family’s history and genealogy.
Sonny is survived by his children, Kathy Nadeau and husband, Peter, Michael Buck and wife, Lisa, and Joanne Riker and husband, Kerry; Beth Adams, who was like a daughter to him; grandchildren, Brandon Nadeau, Amanda Zumwalt, Elliot Adams, Chanel Watson, Alan Langley, Cody Beal and Nicholas Beal; great grandchildren, Harrison, Kayden, Aleiah, Evelyn and Declan; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Cates; a very special nephew, Sandy Buck and wife, Wandamae; his little princess, “Squeaky” with whom he loved to play the harmonica, and his special cat, Furby, who has spent the last 19 years by his side.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his wife, Polly; his son, Brian Buck; and his brother, Louis Buck.
Services will be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Sonny in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the groups and organizations that were close to his heart, Leonard’s Mills Logging Museum, The Curran Homestead, The Antique Engine Club of Skowhegan or the Antique Tractor Club of Norridegewock.
