Luc Normand Proteau, age 84, husband of Gemma Giselle Proteau (1941-2024), son of Antonio Proteau and Lucienne Pouliot, passed away in his home on September 23, 2024. Luc was born in Quebec, Canada, and made the United States his home in 1966.
He and Gemma raised two children, Daniel Ghislain Proteau (1965-2023) and Diane Proteau Rand, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. He worked across Connecticut as a residential and commercial drywall installer for 35 years, including putting up sheetrock in many homes throughout the Shoreline. Luc’s greatest legacy is dedication to a job well done and the value of hard work. He will be remembered for his love of being with family, and playing practical jokes.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Diane, and son-in-law, Dale Rand, his grandchildren, Ashley Proteau-Neely and her husband John Neely, Joshua David Proteau and his wife Jessica Proteau, Elizabeth Joy Proteau, Mary Anne Proteau and her husband Nathan Hunsaker, and Hannah Christine Proteau; his great-grandchildren Rizwaan Abbott, Ryder Proteau and Parker Proteau; his very large and beloved extended family of brothers and sisters; their precious spouses and children; his kind friends and dear neighbors.
Calling hours will be at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook on Friday September 27th from 4:30-6:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark’s Church in Westbrook on Saturday, September 28th at 11:00am.
