He was born on February 26, 1941, in New Haven, the son of Giacomo and Antoinette Barretta.
Louis graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1959 and earned an associate’s degree from
Quinebaug Valley Community College. He worked at United Nuclear and was later employed by the Old Saybrook Board of Education and 9 Town Transit. His favorite pastimes included collecting model trains, listening to Elvis Presley, and spending time with family and friends.
Louis is survived by his wife Sharon; sons Mike and his wife Jane of Gulf Breeze, FL, Bill and his wife Karen of Lyme, and Thomas of Bristol; grandchildren Christopher, Connor, Maria, Olivia, William, Samantha, and Rachel; siblings Richard Barretta and Jane Saccu, both of Orange, and Marie Ryder of Wallingford.
He was predeceased by his brother Charles.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 10th from 6-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. The funeral procession will assemble at 10am on Tuesday, July 11th at the funeral home and will proceed to an 11am Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Church, Main St., Old Saybrook. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
