Frederick John Patrick Mascola (aka Fred, Freddie, Fredski, Rocky, Grandpa and Grandpa Fred), 87, of Old Saybrook, CT passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on November 17, 2024. Fred was born in New Britain on March 17, 1937, the son of Rocco and Madeline Mascola.
Fred graduated from New Britain High School and Central Connecticut State College and obtained a master’s degree at Syracuse University. He was a business teacher at Bristol Central high school, assistant principal at Bristol Eastern High School and went on to become principal at Northeast Middle school for a total of 35 years as an educator. Fred was proud of his career as an educator and loved working with his students and teachers. He loved to boast of success stories and highlights of his career with family and friends.
Fred leaves behind his loving best friend and partner of 36 years, Barbara Molusis of Old Saybrook. Also, his sister Rosemarie Simmone, his daughter Leslie (Tom) Bresette, Lauren (John) Swift, Michael (Motoko) Mascola, seven grandchildren: Lauren, Luci, Joey and Lana Bresette, Cooper, Bauer and Easton Swift. Additionally, David, Thom, Brian Molusis and their partners; the Molusis grandchildren Krista, Kim, Zach, Sylvia and Adam Molusis, who fondly called him Grandpa Fred. And many nieces and nephews. He was also Grandpa Fred to all the neighbor children who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother Andy and sister Lucille. He leaves behind many long time New Britain High School friends as well as all the new friends he made since his retirement to his beloved Indian Town in Old Saybrook.
Fred was passionate about Frank Sinatra and loved the Boston Red Sox and UConn basketball. He took great pleasure in taking his grandchildren on golf cart rides and crabbing in the marina. Fred stayed active in retirement playing tennis and pickleball, cross-country skiing, gardening and traveling. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be held on Friday November 22nd from 9-11:30 am at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd in Old Saybrook, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St John Church at 12 pm in Old Saybrook. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook.
