Jacob Christopher Hatt, 18, of Salem Connecticut passed away on October 23, 2023. He was born on September 3, 2005, in New London, the loving son of Christopher and Tracie Hatt and brother of Alissa Hatt. Jacob graduated from East Lyme high school earlier this year, where he was a great student and active member of the fishing club.
Jacob was an avid BMX and mountain biker and a Connecticut State BMX Champion many years over. He traveled the east coast competing in a sport he so loved. There was nothing like seeing him fly through the air as he jumped his BMX bike or carved the corners or manual the rhythm section. Jacob not only raced BMX bicycles, but Jacob and his cousin Henry built their own bikes from design to fabrication to welding and assembly. When he wasn’t on the BMX track, he could be found fishing in his kayak or the canoe, downhill mountain biking at Powder Ridge, bowling, or at the Groton Skate Park with his cousin and best friend Henry. Jacob was also an amazing guitarist, he picked up music like it was nothing and played almost every day.
Jacob also received many honors and awards including placing in the finals for the Connecticut State Science and Engineering Competition and receiving the Collins Aerospace Engineering Award, Raytheon Excellence in Engineering Award, and the Samantha Freeman Award for Excellence in Sports Science or Engineering. He also received the Craig Morehouse Memorial Award and the Gus DeMauro Award for BMX.
Jacob is survived by his parents Christopher and Tracie and his sister Alissa Hatt of Salem. He also leaves behind his paternal grandmother Maryann Hatt, his maternal grandparents Jon and Deborah Whitworth, his Uncle Jay and Aunt Megan Hatt and their children (his cousins) Madeline, Henry, Victoria, Olivia, and James, his Aunt Lisa and Uncle Steve Besselman, his Aunt Tania and Uncle Tim Poplar and their daughter (his cousin) Trista and all of his extended family.
A private service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023.
