He was born in Davidson County to the late Robert Henry Petty and Lyda Ann Davidson Petty. Bud retired as a truck driver for Kroger after 42 years of service. After retirement he and a friend founded Drivers Unlimited. Bud enjoyed his part-time position as a security guard at Elm Hill Marina. Bud always had a joke—whether it was good or not—and was a big kid himself. It was impossible for him to meet a stranger. He loved children, truck driving, the lake, fishing and piddling.
In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his son, Troy King Petty, and his sister, Hazeleen Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Regina Petty; his three children, Thaxton (Denise) Petty Jr., Roddie (Holly) Petty and Wednesday (Chris) Wiseman; seven grandchildren, Courtney Petty, Mekhael Nugent, William Wiseman, Mason Petty, Logan Petty, Taylor Petty and Hunter Petty; three great grandchildren, Maverick Nugent, Gavin Nugent and Adrian Nugent; and brothers, Robert Harold Petty and Ernest Edward Petty.
