Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Lee Wofford and Bertha Lillian Guthrie; her older sister, Virginia Ann Ladd; and her two younger brothers, James and Aaron Wofford. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, John Wilfred Ladd, her second husband, Gene Helton; her daughter, Sharon Kay Young; and a daughter-in-law, Lola Ladd.
Sara is survived by her son, Richard A Ladd (Cindy) of Collierville, TN; her son, Garry Ladd of Hermitage, TN; granddaughters Rachel DelGado of Los Angeles, CA and Carey Combs (Jeff) of Cordova, TN; great grandson, Niles DelGado; and great granddaughter, Emma Rose Combs. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and a nephew. The family would also like to acknowledge all of her fine neighbors and many friends who were an important part of her life.
Sara was a long-time resident of Old Hickory, TN and a member of Old Hickory Church of Christ. She attended first through eighth grades in a one room schoolhouse at Elysian Grove. She graduated Waverly High School in 1950 and moved to Nashville to work where she met Wilfred. They were married in February during the blizzard of 1951. After the birth of their first child, she remained home to be a full-time homemaker eventually raising three children. Later in life she became an employee of Old Hickory Employees Credit Union, working until she retired after 25 years of service. Sara was a wonderful Christian woman who loved to cook and take care of her family. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, friends, and all that knew her.
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends for Sara on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138 and on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM in the Tulip Grove Chapel at Hermitage Funeral Home with Bro. Don Loftis officiating. Following the service, Sara will be laid to rest in the Garden of Peace at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
