In loving memory of Robert Thomas Hudson, who passed away on September 10, 2022 in Hermitage, Tennessee. Tom was born to Dr. Robert and Ruth Hudson, and raised in Utica, Mississippi, along with his younger brother David, all predeceased. He was the devoted husband of Olive Hudson for 65 years and proud father to three Eagle Scouts, Larry, Bob, and David, as well as daughters-in-love Marnie and Leslie. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Sara, Jonathan, Nicholas, and great-granddaughter Charlotte.
While earning degrees at Mississippi College (1958), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1961), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (1977), Tom held various pastorates in Texas, Mississippi, and Montana, culminating with 22 years of pastoral service at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. While at Oak Forest, Dr. Hudson began writing denominational Sunday school lessons. This led to a 15 year tenure at Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville as an editor of adult curriculum materials, retiring in 2001. Remaining in Middle Tennessee, Tom continued part time with Lifeway, was an active leader and volunteer at Tulip Grove Baptist Church and within the McKendree Village retirement community.
One of the kindest of souls, our father was a gentle man, generous of spirit, who sought to be edifying while meeting you where you were. He was a man of strong faith, and he taught us the importance of integrity, grace, and the joy of a relaxed authenticity. Our father was a selfless role model for whom we will always be thankful.
The family is planning a celebration of life service that will be held September 30, 2022 in the chapel of McKendree Village, 4347 Lebanon Rd, Hermitage TN at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please keep the family in fond remembrance while safeguarding your own.
