Phyllis Stewart Williams, Old Hickory, TN, age 77 passed away on December 18, 2020 after being diagnosed with covid-19. She attended DuPont High School graduating in 1961 and served as an officer of Sigma Delta Chi sorority. After graduation, she went to work for the State of Tennessee Department of Revenue. From 1965 to 1974 she worked in the Tennessee State Legislature. Phyllis was employed at Old Hickory Credit Union from 1985 to 2007. In 2007, she left the Credit Union to work for Sheriff Daron Hall in the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Phyllis has been involved with many local political campaigns and the communities of Donelson, Hermitage and Old Hickory. She has served on many boards such as Leadership Donelson-Hermitage, Nashville Women’s Political Caucus, Breakfast Club of Nashville, WIN (Women In Numbers), Davidson County Democratic Party, Davidson County Democratic Women, Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce, Old Hickory Chamber of Commerce, Discover Madison, Inc., and American Cancer Society-Hermitage Relay for Life. Phyllis has held many positions with those organizations. They include President, Leadership Donelson-Hermitage and Treasurer of Davidson County Democratic Party; Davidson County Democratic Women; Old Hickory Chamber of Commerce; Greater Nashville Business & Professional Women; Campaign to Elect Phil Ponder Vice-Mayor; Friends to Elect Steve Glover School Board District 4; and numerous board positions with Nashville Women’s Political Caucus. Phyllis has received many awards and recognitions such as Rachel Award “Master Gardner” (2018); Gloria Coles Leadership Heart of the Community Award (2015); DuPont High School Distinguished Alumni of Year (2013); Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce Anna Wiggs award (2013); Exchange Club of Donelson Hermitage Proudly To Fly American Flag Award (2012); Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce Wrenza Jordon Memorial Award (2009); Davidson County Democratic Women Volunteer Extraordinaire (2009); LDH Consecutive Retreats (2009); Relay for Life—Individual Most Money Raised (2005); DH Exchange Book of Golden Deed recipient (2004); Star Spangle Salute Honoree (2003); DH Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year (2003); Leadership Donelson Hermitage Spirit Award (2001); DH Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Service Award (2000); and Old Hickory Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Member (1999). She most recently held the position of treasurer for the Women's Political Collaborative of Tennessee. Phyllis is preceded in death by parents Lester "Boots" and Cloa Clemons Stewart and daughter, Mitzi Williams. She is survived by son, Mark (Amanda) Williams, grandsons, Lucas and Logan and brother, Wilson (Carolyn) Stewart.
Arrangements are provided by Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
