Jim was born April 19, 1945 in Abingdon, Virginia to James and Eileen Dove. He was married to Patricia (Patty) McCormick on December 31, 1965 in Mountain City, Tennessee by a Justice of the Peace. They raised two boys Kenneth M. Dove (Arlene) of Lakeland, Florida and Chris B. Dove (Lorie) of Lebanon, Tennessee; his five grandchildren, Michael, Jacquelyn, Kimberly, Diana and Eleanor were the most precious people in his life.
He is remembered by many for his numerous pranks, mischievous smile and laugh. He was a giver. Many people received from his generous spirit with cash in hand when he felt led to give someone a blessing. He was led to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ by an aunt when he was a young father. He served in numerous roles in local churches such as Old Hickory Church of the Nazarene and Nashville Grace Church of the Nazarene.
He worked heavy equipment for most of his vocational life, spending 15 years at Sentry Steel Crane Service, serving as City Manager for the City of Lakewood and owning D & D Landscaping and Excavating. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Operating Engineers local 369 for fifty years.
He enjoyed taking family vacations in the Great Smokey Mountains and visiting family in Virginia. Sharing time with church friends. As the grandchildren came into his life, his attention turned to spending time with them.
Pallbearers will be Chris Dove, Michael Dove, Glen Harless, Fred Koudelka, Greg Lay & Josh White.
A gathering of family and friends for James will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 535 Shute Ln, Old Hickory, TN 37138. Final resting place will be in Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, TN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
