Donny N. Biggs, age 75, of Hermitage, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Donny was born April 11, 1946 to parents Rev. J. A. Biggs and Bessie L. (Moses) Biggs in Lewisburg, Tennessee. He graduated Marshall County High School in Lewisburg in 1964 and continued his education by earning his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Trevecca Nazarene College (now University) in Nashville, Tennessee in 1968.
Professionally, Donny began his career serving two years in the United States Justice Department then became a police officer for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. He retired as a sergeant with the MNPD after serving twenty-eight years.
Donny was known for his love of family and people, in general. He was definitely a man with many interests. For many years, he served churches in Nashville, Brentwood, and Mount Juliet by leading congregational singing, choirs and orchestras. At one time, he directed a youth choir, "Young Believers", who toured and shared their music. Donny was a talented singer and trumpet player. With Barbara at the piano, they provided many musical concerts over the years to area churches. At one time, he and Barbara sang in a gospel quartet, "The Hallmarks", performing in area churches. Most recently, Donny became a Ham Radio operator and joined the Wilson County Amateur Ham Radio Club. He also volunteered for the Wilson County Emergency Agency. He will be missed by many but his contributions will live on for years to come.
Donny is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara L. Biggs; daughter Jennifer Renee (Biggs) Stump; sister Melba Jean (Biggs) Martin, sister Shirley (Biggs) Riley, sister Ethelene (Biggs) Klepfer, sister Carolyn (Biggs) Gray, sister Jacque Lynn (Biggs) Hambrick and brother Phillip Michael Biggs; grandson William Austin Stump and granddaughter Alyssa Nicole Stump.
Donny was preceded in death by his parents Rev. J. A. & Bessie Biggs; his brothers Thomas Wayne Biggs, Archie Randall Biggs, and James Wallace Biggs.
There will be a Gathering of Family & Friends Friday, July 16, 2021 at Hermitage Funeral Home from 6pm - 8pm and Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 1pm - 2pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2pm. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Cross at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Donny's Celebration of Life will be live-streamed at the time of the service and can be viewed anytime following by visiting the Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens page on Facebook. (Note: The live-stream will not begin until approximately one minute before the service begins.)
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memoriam of Sergeant Donny Biggs to the Nashville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, 440 Welshwood Drive, Nashville, TN 37211 to help provide aide to wounded or fallen police officers.
