LTC (Ret.) Robert Nevin Adams passed away peacefully in Lenexa, Kansas on June 9, 2019 at the age of 85. Bob, as he liked to be called, was born in St. Petersburg Florida on July 26, 1933. He graduated from the Florida Military Academy and joined the U.S. Army in 1951 being assigned to the Infantry Branch. Bob was selected to attend Infantry Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned in 1955. This was followed by flight school in 1956 qualifying to fly both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Bob served on active duty for over 22 years culminating with an assignment to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas as an Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) Instructor.
During his military career, Bob served in Korea (1952-53) and served two tours to Vietnam (1964-65; 67-68). His most notable awards include the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with V-devices, Combat Infantry Badge (2dAward) and two Purple Hearts.
Bob was an active member of the Army Otter-Caribou Association and truly enjoyed the annual reunions. He cherished the comradery and the lasting friendships.
Bob graduated from the University of Maryland in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in military science.
Bob continued his education and acquired a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1975. In addition to having a private practice, Bob worked for the state of Missouri in several positions including assistant prosecutor, assistant to the attorney general and legal counsel to the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Bar Associations in Kansas, Missouri, and Florida.
Bob is survived by his wife Elma Jo Adams (Fisher), brother-in-law Harold (Jane) Fisher, his children Vicki (John) Krueger; Barbara Markovich; Theresa (Bill) Nickum; Mike (Julie) Adams; Joe Adams; Carol (Jeff) Arsenault; and stepson Brad Klaassen. Additionally, he is survived by his three nephews Bobby (Citi) Adams; Tommy (Barbara) Adams; Johnny (Leigh) Adams. Bob is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Caul Edward and Rosa Mae (Odom) Adams; first wife Margaret (Rowe); his brother LTC (Ret) Edward Earl Adams; sister-in-law Josephine Ann Adams (Chew); and stepson Barry Klaassen.
Bob’s sense of humor and his talent for storytelling will truly be missed. He touched so many lives with just a smile and a laugh. Bob was a true patriot who loved his family, his country and his God.
A memorial service will be held on July 9, 2019, 10 am, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery located at 150 Muncie Road (stone pillar main entrance) Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
