Paul M. Duran, 94, of Chicago Illinois, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving daughters and family on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, godfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to everyone he knew.
Paul was born on June 18, 1928 in Marceline, Missouri to Ignacio and Victoria (Martinez) Duran. He served his country honorable in the U.S. Army. On September 5, 1964 he married the love of his life “Jennie”. They were married at St. Thomas of the Apostle Catholic Church in the Armourdale district in Kansas City, Kansas. Together they raised their two daughters Sylvia and Debbie.
He was a member of St. Basil Visitation Catholic Church in Chicago where he raised his daughters in the Catholic faith. He loved to travel back to Marceline and Kansas City to visit his dear family. Attending church events and dances were some of his favorite pastimes. Paul was a man of faith, praying especially to St. Jude. He was known for lighting church candles for all his family members in need. It was common practice for Paul to light many candles at a time. Please pray for him to St. Jude for Eternal Life.
His parents, loving wife of 57 years, Juanita “Jennie” (Fernandez) Duran, three brothers, Eugene Duran, Jack Duran and Antonio Duran and two sister-in-laws, Rita Duran and Lucy Duran, precede Paul in death. His two loving daughters, Sylvia Arciga and her husband David of Kansas City, Missouri and Debbie Duran of the home, survive him. His sister-in-law Socorro Duran of Brookfield, Illinois and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his cousin, also survive Paul.
Funeral Services on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at St. Basil Visitation Catholic Church, 843 W. Garfield Blvd, Chicago, Illinois. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of mass at 11:00 am.
A Visitation honoring the life of our uncle Paul Duran will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Entombment Saturday morning, June 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum 1150 North 38th Street Kansas City, Kansas. Uncle Paul served his country honorably; He will be laid to rest with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army Military Honors Team.
