Mary Baker was born July 15, 1922 in Kansas City, KS by parents Flora Jean Sharp and Husband Anthony S. Weaver. Mary was married to John E. Baker on April 23, 1941. In her younger years Mary was both a Boy and Girl Scout leader, the President of the PTA, and the President and a lifetime member of the VFW in Olathe, KS. During her lifetime she worked as a waitress, she worked for Nelly Don, Russell Stover, and Hewlett Packard. She also worked many years as a supervisor for an aircraft assembly line, at King Radio. One of her greatest accomplishments was being the best mother and grandmother, a child or grandchild could ever ask for.
Mary never met a stranger, she met new faces and friends. She would talk to anyone freely; at the grocery store, in lines, at restaurants, and people camping next to them at the campgrounds. She loved nature. She enjoyed watching cloud formations, watching and feeding the wildlife in her yard. Her hobbies were gardening, photography, painting, crocheting, ceramics, camping and traveling with family and friends. She had a heart of gold and an everlasting smile and will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, her husband John of 63 years, a brother, two sisters, a grandson, and a great-great granddaughter.
She is survived by two sisters Betty (Joe) Nick, Margie (Bill) Lowe, two daughters, Pat Hymer, Gardner, KS. and Kay Taylor, Cameron, OK, one son Ed Baker (Ginny), Elizabeth, CO, grandchildren, Jim Cole, Jenny (Ken) Burk, Barb Cole, Kenny (Martina) Whitby, Bobby Deen (Carla) Whitby, Cheryl (Mike) Denton, Debbie (Nicki) Ullom, Mike Baker, Josh Baker (Jay Luckey), Becky (Scott) Murphy and Jeannie (Gary) Potts, 37 great grandchildren and 33 great-great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was blessed to have received such excellent care from the wonderful staff at Spring Hill Care & Rehabilitation Center in Spring Hill, KS. She made many friends during her stay there as such we ask Memorial Contributions to be made to Spring Hill Care & Rehabilitation Center or to King of Kings Lutheran Church.
Funeral will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church. Graveside service immediately following Funeral. Interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Gardner, KS.
