Marshall “Mark” Joseph Thompson, 61, of Edgerton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he knew.
Marshall was born on June 18, 1959, in Olathe, Kansas to William “Sam” and Erma (Clevenger) Thompson. He attended and graduated from Olathe High School class of 1977. He married the love of his life Michelle Ann Spitzenberger on July 30, 2011. Together they raised Michelle’s sons, Jared, Ely and Bryce. Marshall began his career as an electrician at B.A. Barnes Electric in Olathe, KS. He later worked as building maintenance for Amazon warehouses before moving to Garmin.
You would always find Marshall helping his friends and neighbors with their home projects and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. You could rely on him to listen to your problems, give you a good laugh, tell a dirty joke, or provide fatherly advice. When he wasn’t working or helping someone, he was watching sports. From dirt track to Nascar, KU basketball, Royals baseball to the Kansas City Chiefs, he enjoyed them all. Marshall cherished spending time with his family or helping a friend.
Marshall is preceded in death by his mother, Erma Thompson, and his sister, Teresa Klaus. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years Michelle Thompson, father Sam Thompson, sons Jared Hale and his wife, Laurie, of Denver, Colorado, Ely Webster of Eudora, Kansas, and Bryce Webster of Gardner, Kansas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews, Shane Hook and his wife, Laurie, Shannon Miller and her husband, Jason, Gabrielle Funk, Gracie Funk, Will Funk and Claire Funk. He will be sadly missed by his brothers, Tom Thompson of Olathe, Kansas, Brian Thompson of Olathe, Kansas, Brad Thompson and his wife, Violet, of San Diego, California, and his sister, Deana Funk, and her husband, Byron of Olathe, Kansas.
