Janis was born to Ernest Monroe and Clara Faye (Ruble) Gibson the 25th of October 1935, Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas.
Janis spent most of her grade school years in Harrison. Her father was a railroad machinist and when the railroad closed down in the early1940's, they moved to Springfield, Missouri for a short while then her father got a job with his union and they moved to the Kansas City area. Janis always told the story of how they moved from Ruskin Heights to Overland Park, Kansas about two weeks before a tornado blew their old house and much of the rest of Ruskin Heights off the map.
She finished her schooling at what is now called Shawnee Mission North in 1952. In 1954 she met her future husband, Eugene L. Parker during a visit to a friend's home. On June 25, 1955 Janis and Gene married in the First Christian Church in Overland Park, Kansas. At the time of Janis' passing, they had been married 61 years.
They had two daughters, Lauren Faye Ingle, of Edgerton, KS and Jennifer Sue Parker. Jennifer Sue was still born and is buried at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery in the Little Angels Circle.
Janice loved working outside, she had beautiful flower gardens on all side of their home. She loved getting her Toro riding mower and mowing the yard.
She taught herself how to sew and knit and became an excellent seamstress. For years she sewed most of Gene's work shirts and made school clothes and costumes for her daughter's dance classes. She also loved to knit and made many of the sweaters she and the rest of the family wore. She also found time to become a member of the Sweet Adelines chorus. She sang a beautiful bass. She loved everyone and could always find time to give family and friends a helping hand.
Her parents predeceased her. She leaves her husband Gene who will miss her very much, a brother, Thomas Monroe Gibson and wife Carol of Bedford, TX and numerous nieces and nephews as well as two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
At her request, she will be cremated and there will be no services. She will be buried at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
