Charles Glen Gardiner, 80, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met.
Charlie was born on September 23, 1934 in Manilla, Iowa to Glen and Elsie Mae (Gessman) Gardiner. He attended and graduated from Avoca High School. After graduation he attended Drake University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics. Charlie married the love of his life Mary E. Larsen on July 9, 1955. He worked over 37 years as a sales service director for Sprint before he retired in 1989. He was an avid reader and more than anything enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents: Glen and Elsie Gardiner, brother, Richard Gardiner and sister, Barbara Morris. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Mary E. Gardiner of the home. Two sons: Robert Gardiner and his wife Lori, Overland Park, Kansas and David Gardiner all of Overland Park. Other survivors include his brother Donald Gardiner and wife Mona, of Omaha, Nebraska sister Virginia Thayer and husband Roger of Lake View, Iowa. Left behind to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Brian Gardiner, Kelsey Webb and husband Josh, and Madison Gardiner. He will be dearly missed.
A Funeral will be held Saturday, August 22, at 1:00 p.m. at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home: 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be held prior to the service from Noon-1:00 p.m. Charlie will be cremated according to his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Public Library via the family or McGilley & Frye Funeral Home.
