Carol graduated from Gridley High School in 1952. She went on to earn a BS in Business Education from Emporia State University in 1956, later earning an MS in Curriculum and Education in 1976.
After graduating college, she met Frederick J Garber while he was teaching at Gridley High School and they married June 20, 1958. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2008.
Carol was a teacher at Olathe High School/Olathe North from 1956 to 1997 were she taught various business courses. She started and sponsored the school’s community service program that continued years after her retirement.
After retirement, she volunteered with Seniors Serving Schools as a “Rocker and Hugger” where she got to share some cuddle time with babies.
Carol was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe, KS where she enjoyed Bible study classes and the followship of other members. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Anchor Chapter No3, Olathe, KS and White Rose Chapter No297, Gridley, KS. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Carol loved music and enjoyed playing the piano, later learning the organ through the Lowery Organ club “Music Makers for Life” in Overland Park, KS. She often played at the Sunday services at Cedar Lake Village retirement community where she resided.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband Fred and her sister-in-law Sandy Switzer. Survivors include her son Tom Garber and his wife Laurie; daughter Mary Beth Kroh and her husband Chuck; four grandchildren, Zach and Josh Garber, Madison and Hannah Kroh; and her brother Vernon Switzer.
Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, November 27th at Grace United Methodist Church 11485 South Ridgeview Road Olathe, Kansas. Interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas. Visitation 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, November 26th at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas.
