Brigitte Ella Sledge, 81, passed away while surrounded by family on Monday March 23, 2020 at the Olathe Health Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas. She was born July 21, 1938 in Berlin, Germany to Wilhelm and Elli Judernatz. Brigitte came to the United States with her family when she was 16 and settled in Omaha, Nebraska. It was there that she met the love of her life, Thomas Sledge, also of Omaha. Brigitte soon became a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker and remained so, long after the family’s relocation to Olathe, Kansas.
Brigitte doted on her husband, children, and grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much. She was a firecracker, full of life, perseverance, laughter, and wit who enjoyed spending quality time with her family, sharing stories of her childhood, and making delicious home-cooked meals. Later in life, she also enjoyed knitting, reading on her Kindle, and watching her favorite show, Survivor. Brigitte had a bold sense of style, which proved to be a wonderful expression of her equally bold personality.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Thomas Sledge and his wife Lynette of Moyock, NC; Ted Sledge and his wife Heather of Bemidji, MN; and Brigitte (Sledge) Brandt and her husband Patrick of Gardner, KS. She is also survived by her sister, Marianne Dorey of Tucson, AZ, as well as five of her grandchildren: Samantha Brandt, Cassidy Brandt, Trevor Sledge, Christopher Sledge, and Zachary Sledge.
Upon her passing, Brigitte looked forward to reuniting with her heavenly family, including her husband, Thomas; her brother, Manfred Judernatz; and her beloved grandson, Nicholas Sledge.
Private services will be held locally in Olathe, KS for immediate family only on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
