William Ray Morgan, 74 years old, of Midwest City, OK passed away on February 11th 2023. Ray, as he was known by, was born on February 14th 1948 to William and Naomi Morgan in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After graduating from Midwest City HS in 1966 he went on to join the Navy, and then married his wife Saundra Sue Mitchell in 1968, whom he was with until his passing.
Ray was stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base and he lived with Saundra in Honolulu, Hawaii until returning back to Midwest City, Oklahoma in the fall of 1970. While serving in the Navy, Ray was part of a unit that was tasked with spying on Russian Naval Operations in the Pacific Ocean. In January of 1971 his only child, Steven R. Morgan, was born. Upon Ray’s discharge from the Navy in 1970, he worked at Tinker Airforce Base and became a licensed machinist. At that point he went on to take classes to become an Air Traffic Controller and worked briefly in Dallas, Texas. From there, Ray returned to Midwest City and started working on motorcycles for Oklahoma Honda and was also a Tech Official for NHRA Drag Racing. Ray then worked for a Custom Truck Accessory shop before starting his own Metal Fabrication Business, Morgan Fabrication, in Oklahoma City in 1989.
Ray was very accomplished as a business man who ended up procuring government contracts to produce materials used on Naval Air Bases to test Navy jets. He also helped design the first solar powered cars for the University of Oklahoma. Ray also produced metal filtration systems for Sonic Corporation, and racing foot pedals for racing simulators for NASCAR drivers.
Ray was forced to retire and close his business in 2015 after suffering major eye issues which rendered him partially blind. Since 2015 Ray has spent his time enjoying cooking, tinkering around his house and following racing sports.
Ray is survived by his wife Saundra Sue Morgan as well as his son Steven Morgan (Leah Morgan), grandchildren Shay and Ian Morgan, and his brother David Morgan (Nancy Morgan) and sister Suzanne McFerrin (Jim Schmidtlein).
The family is doing a private celebration of life at a later date.
