William David Hasel, Sr., 90 year-old resident of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away July 14, 2013 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Born June 13, 1923 in St. Paul, Kansas, in the same house his father was born, he was the son of Walter Dewey Hasel and Chelsea (Swope) Hasel. He was raised in South Mound, Kansas on a farm that raised corn, wheat, oats, and alfalfa along with hogs; chickens, and milk cows. Bill was a WW II veteran, serving in the U. S. Coast Guard at Okinawa; Japan; the Panama Canal; and Marseilles, France among other places. He was a switchman for 37 years for the Katy railroad MKT starting out at 40 cents/hour and retired at 20.00/hour. He was a great husband, father, brother, church deacon, and friend. That is something that most very rich folks can't say with honesty. Bill met the mother of his children, Carolyn on a blind date in North Carolina during the War. They eloped and were married September 4, 1943 in the courthouse at Conway, South Carolina. They had 5 children, William “David” Hasel; Jean Marie Hasel; Michael Odel Hasel; Cheryl Louise Cox; and Walter Franklin Hasel. Bill and Jimmie were married June 30, 1989 at the House of Prayer in Del City, Oklahoma. They were married for over 24 years. During Bill’s retirement years they belonged to Frontier Good Sam’s Club and traveled frequently and extensively. Bill built his home with the help of his boys. He was always working in his garden or his woodworking shop. Bill was always up for a FISHING trip and he raised goats as a hobby. Bill was an old fashioned gentleman who took his wife shopping; paid his bills on time; tithed regularly; took his family to the lake for fishing and water-skiing; mowed the church’s grass; and loved having fish fries. He never owned a tuxedo preferring things like country music or pitching horseshoes to toasting with caviar. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and the children’s mother, Drurie Carolyn Hasel, and one daughter, Jean Marie Hasel. Survivors include his wife of 24 years Jimmie Hasel of the home; 4 children; William David (Margaret Ann Ashford) Hasel, Jr. of Luther, OK; Michael Leon (Joyce Snow) Hasel of Choctaw, OK; Cheryl Louise Hasel (Tom) Cox of Newalla, OK; Walter Franklin (Cindy Miller) Hasel of Palestine, TX; 3 step-children, Ray (Brenda) Dyer of Choctaw, OK; Charlotte Short (Gerald) Cross of Edmond, OK; Nancy Short (Russell) Logan of Glendale, OR; his brother, Norman Hasel; grandchildren, Pam (Ron) Alcorn; Lisa (Larry) Giordano; Jennifer Hasel; Michael (Emily) Odel Hasel; Keri (Brad) Little; Tammie Bable; Tommy Hasel; Billy Hasel; Rachel Mann; and Thomas David Cox; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, Chris Cross; John Cross; Mishel Spiroski, and Dragan Spiroski; and a host of other relatives and friends.
