Gaye attended school in Ardmore and it was there that she met her future husband Wendell Hughes. They were also married there on February 1, 1947.
In 1952, they moved to Oklahoma City and made it their home until 1970 when Wendell’s job took them to Dallas, Texas. Eventually Wendell was transferred back to Oklahoma City, making it their final residence.
Gaye was active in her church, Memorial Road Church of Christ and raised their four children.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, grandparents, two aunts, her oldest daughter, Mary Kathleen Hughes, her youngest daughter Anna Beth Bennett, son Larry Michael Hughes and her husband Wendell Hughes after 77 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Gaye Phillips and her son-in-law, Daren Phillips, her grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 6th from 2 pm to 4 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service to celebrate Gaye’s life will be Monday, October 7th at 10 am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
