Sudie Marie Smitherman was born March 19, 1957 in Midland, Texas to the late William Joseph and Jane Ellen (Wallace) Smitherman. Sudie was a 1975 graduate of Putnam City High School. She grew up in a loving home as one of five children, often the protector and second mother to her brothers and sisters. Sudie attended then Central State University in Edmond, completing multiple courses in early childhood education. She spent her career in Oklahoma school systems as an administrative assistant, with a true heart for young children.
Sudie loved her family fiercely, devoting her life to her children. Sudie was the greatest cheerleader, counselor, and supporter of anything involving her children. In her later life, she especially loved her role as Mammo to her three grandchildren, embracing every moment with them. Sudie lit up any room she walked into, with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She loved the Lord and was of Catholic faith, finding great comfort in receiving Holy Communion in her church.
She leaves to carry on her legacy her children Janie Marie Taylor and husband Tommy Taylor of Pauls Valley, OK and Steven David Johnson of Salt Lake City, UT; siblings Rex Smitherman and wife Paula of OKC, Deidre Nixon and husband Randy of Medford, OR, Jason Smitherman of Loveland, CO, Quintin Smitherman and wife Cindy of Chickasha, OK; grandchildren Kate Taylor, Harrison Taylor, and Anna Taylor; 7 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces, and 3 great nephews.
Memorial donations may be made in Sudie’s name to Catholic Charities.
A memorial service to celebrate Sudie’s life will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with inurnment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
