On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, Steven Anthony Herrera left this earth to return home with his Lord and Savior. Steven was born in Midwest City, OK, on July 15, 1972, to Frances Poindexter. He grew up in Midwest City and graduated from Westmoore High School.
At the age of 25, Steven lost his sight, but that never stopped him from living his beautiful, adventurous life. Even though he was completely blind, you wouldn’t know because of how he described things so vividly. His mother Frances, has been his eyes for the past twenty-two years and he loved to travel the world with her. Steven enjoyed spending time with this family; his proudest moments being when his sister, Melissa, was born and then later, walking her down the aisle.
His biggest achievements include learning Braille by taking online classes, taking Braille transcription class, and of course, being a gummy bear aficionado! Steven’s hobbies include traveling, attending blind activities and conferences, playing on his computer and blind assistive devices, loving on his dog nephew, Maxx, and of course eating. He was the ultimate foodie, but his all-time favorite was the all you could eat shrimp at Red Lobster. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Council of the Blind and the Heartland Council for the Blind. Steven was a jokester, very fun loving and could carry a conversation like no other; he truly never met a stranger in his life.
Steven is survived by his mother, Frances Poindexter (Willis) of Midwest City, OK; sister, Melissa Chaney and husband Derrick of Midwest City, OK; niece, Hadley Chaney; nephew, Kingston Chaney. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to honor his memory.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 24, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The celebration of Steven’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.
