Sarah (Townsend) Dunaway passed away on November 5th, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She lived a full 95 years. She was a resident of Epworth Villa Retirement Community in Oklahoma City for many years. While at Epworth Villa, she had many friends and enjoyed her various activities. She especially enjoyed working at the Country Store and visiting with friends while they were shopping.
Sarah was born in Valliant, Oklahoma to Clark and Ethel Townsend on March 21st, 1927. She was one of 12 children. After graduating from high school, she moved to Oklahoma City. She was employed at the Oklahoma Tax Commission for 45 years. Following retirement, she spent over 20 years in South Texas, enjoying new friends and various activities.
Sarah was a long-time member of the Spencer United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She was proud of her Indian heritage and her family. She loved to come to McCurtain County to visit family and friends.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Dunaway, her parents Clark and Ethel Townsend as well as four sisters and five brothers. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Mary Lee Johnson. She also has two surviving sisters: Jane Whitten of Idabel, Oklahoma and Pat Privott and husband Norman Privott of Mustang, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Townsend of Clay Center, Nebraska. She leaves her siblings, many nieces and nephews and numerous family members and friends a lifetime of loving memories. Sarah will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her generosity toward her family and her sharp memory. She loved well and we miss her already.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 10th from 3pm – 7pm at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
Funeral Services will be Friday, November 11th at 2:00pm at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
