Russell was born on July 23, 1942, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Star Spencer high school then enlisted in the Air Force where he was a bomb technician. He later worked for NASA where he helped develop many components of the moon landing. One of his designs was the cameras that recorded the first steps of man on the Moon and remains on the moon to this day. He did national defense contracts including Intercontinental ballistic missiles, and the first programmable handheld calculator for Texas instruments. He mapped Mars and was instrumental in intelligence gathering for national defense. He had multiple college degrees, real estate, cosmetology and pilot licenses. He taught karate and scuba diving and was knowledgeable on many subjects.
He was preceded in death by his father Prinston (Buck), mother Lorraine and brother Dennis. He is survived by his sister Francis, the mother of his children Sandy, his mate of 35 years Elaine, three children, Rusty, Tim and Kathy, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Russell will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Flynn Cemetery, N 3460 Road & Texaco Road, Agra, OK 74023.
