Priscilla Mullins Braun, 89, entered Heaven on August 19, 2022. She was born in Amarillo, Texas on March 10, 1933 to Mary and Paul Mullins. Raised in Amarillo, she attended Colorado College before entering the University of Texas.
Priscilla met the love of her life, Jordan C. Braun in 1963. They married and raised three children while living in Amarillo, Midland and Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Braun was active in numerous civic service organizations, the Oklahoma City Junior League and the OKC chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae. She was named Theta of the Year in Oklahoma. Priscilla and her husband were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Priscilla Braun's strongest contribution of service was to the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra League where she served on Boards for many years, chairing the Symphony Showcase Home Benefits and fundraisers. In the late 1980s when the OSO was closing, Joel Levine reached out to community leaders who were interested in helping assemble business leadership to create the business model for the Philharmonic Society. Priscilla, Berta Faye Rex and Jane Harlow volunteered and formed the Orchestra League. The group worked to achieve financial support for the Orchestra. The Philharmonic performed to a full house on October 16, 1989. In 1995, Priscilla was given the Governor's Arts Award for Community Service.
Priscilla had a tremendous passion for gardening and loved being outdoors. Her gardens were a place of peace and beauty to her. She was gifted in decorating skills, fine arts and loved teaching children. Affectionately called Lala by her grandchildren, she delighted in playing games, reading stories, doing art projects, taking them on field trips, teaching a new recipe or sharing her gardening knowledge. On the day of the OKC bombing of the Murrah Building, Priscilla was en route to the convention center for a symphony presentation to school children. She heard the deafening explosion and saw shattered glass falling from buildings. Without hesitation, she stepped on the gas and raced to the convention center to be there to protect children.
Priscilla and Jordan Braun spent much of the year in Santa Fe, NM where they warmly entertained guests in their home, as well as being patrons of SF Chamber Music and Santa Fe Opera. They supported Native American arts and museums.
From Priscilla's high school days at Amarillo HS where she was awarded for her outstanding service to her final years of ability, she lived a life of service to others.
Friends and family remember Priscilla's sweet spirit in times of hardship or adversity. She never dwelled on negatives and frequently encouraged others by saying, "Just move on." She remained a dignified, happy lady to the end of her life.
Priscilla sought and found beauty in the little things, was compassionate and showed tremendous perseverance throughout her life.
Priscilla Braun was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Scott Mullins. She is survived by her loving husband, Jordan Braun; sons Michael Braun (Rhonda), Paul Braun (Elizabeth) and daughter Angela Fletcher (Dr. Gayle Fletcher); six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Gibson and 3 nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Priscilla’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Westminster Presbyterian Sanctuary, followed by a reception in the Westminster Garden Court. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring Priscilla may be made to Oklahoma City Philharmonic, 424 Colcord Drive, Suite B, OKC, OK 73102 (405-702-4081, [email protected]) or to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel Ave, OKC, OK, 73118.
The Braun family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided to Priscilla by her physicians, care providers, Connie Daniels, Vicki Escajeda and Valir Hospice.
