Patricia N. Green, born September 6, 1934 to Duane and Lera Mateer, died peacefully, at her daughter’s home, on February 14, 2021. Pat attended Taft Jr. High School and Classen High School. After a year spent at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA, Pat returned home to earn her BA degree in History at the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She later obtained a master’s degree at the University of Central Oklahoma, which led to a career as a High School Counselor at Putnam City West High School where she built many enduring friendships and worked until her retirement.
Pat happily spent her entire life in Oklahoma City except for three years in Durham, NH where her husband of 56 years, Charles Green, served in the US Air Force. It was in New Hampshire that her first two children, Clark and Mary Beth were born. David, her third child, would arrive six years later after the couple returned home to Oklahoma City. Pat was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and served on various boards, taught Sunday School and was a faithful member of the Builder’s Sunday School Class. She also served on the boards of several civic organizations including Youth Services of Oklahoma City, Planned Parenthood and the Western History Collections at OU. Aside from church, public service and family, Pat’s other joys in life, included regular bridge games with close friends and a warm comradery with her Dinner Club group. Evenings often found her working the daily crypt-o-quote or reading her newest, favorite book, and weekend afternoons were almost always given to solving New York Times crossword puzzles when she and Charles weren’t indulging their love of golf.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, and her sons Clark and David. She is survived by her daughter Mary Beth Runyon and son-in-law Peter, Vail, CO, her grandson Charlie Green, Seattle, WA, and two nieces Kathy Kendall-Johnston and Mei Johnston, Portland, OR.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10 at 3pm at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pat’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma or the St Luke’s Foundation.
