Murray Gordon Anderson was born on September 5, 1969 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Betty and Lanny Anderson. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1987 where he was a member of the Viking basketball team. He studied at the University of Oklahoma and received a biology degree and a Masters degree in Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma. Murray served as a Licensed Professional Counselor and had a true calling for helping others overcome addiction.
Murray’s greatest passion was spending time with family and friends. He celebrated every day being with his wife Chelle and children Thatcher and Ali, whom he cherished and loved deeply. Murray loved taking family trips to the beach or hiking in the mountains. He loved coaching children in many sports - especially his favorite sport, basketball. His players, fellow coaches, and parents are forever grateful for the impact he made on them.
A special part of Murray’s life was summer camp in Minnesota where he made life-long friends as a camper and counselor. He found enjoyment and peace in the great outdoors, especially sharing stories around the campfire. Even at home, he took opportunities to be outside as much as possible - grilling, building a fire, or doing yard work. Murray was an avid sports fan and was a loyal follower of OU football and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Murray impressed many with his gift of recalling specific scores and dates of sporting events.
Murray will always be remembered for his comforting, accepting presence and his sincere gift of connecting with people. He truly cared about others, and people were drawn to him. Murray touched the lives of so many young and old.
Murray was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Chelle, son Thatcher and daughter Ali; his siblings Bennett Anderson, Ava Anderson Nesbitt, John Anderson, Amy Anderson Sergent and their families.
Services will be held Monday, December 17th at 10 am at Christ the King. Donations in memory of Murray can be made to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
