He was born July 31, 1948 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Eddy and Marianna Davis. Mike grew up in Oklahoma City, OK. He was an all-star, left handed pitcher at Northwest Classen High School, graduating in 1966. His talent resulted in a full scholarship at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1969 he was drafted by the Army. He was stationed at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. as a meteorologist, which ignited a life-long passion for the sky. At the end of his service, he returned to Austin. Shortly thereafter, he returned to his favorite state, Oklahoma. Michael never met a stranger. He could effortlessly and genuinely speak to anyone, without judgment, as if he had known them for years. This gift, along with empathy and compassion, led him into a long and successful career in the funeral industry. At the end of his career, he returned to Austin to join his son, as Executive Vice President of a Lender’s services company. In this capacity, he championed doing “the next right thing” and was beloved by employees, clients, and vendors alike. Mike was deeply passionate about OU football; a family tradition that was started by his father’s record setting career as a Sooner fullback. Mike loved golf. He deeply valued the many friends, most notably his best friend Cindy, with whom he spent every spare moment “mastering the game”. He was an avid poker player, an OKC Thunder fan and a walking OU encyclopedia.
Mike grew to be the best granddad out there. It was very important that each of his three grandkids were remembered for their birthdays and Christmas. Mike was a generous father, a spirited and energetic grandfather, a hero of a brother and a wise and honest confidante. He had the quickest wit, the keenest sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
