Bothwell, McCart Alexander (Mac) passed away July 2, 2011. He was born December 20, 1935, in Ponca City, OK, to Thomas Alexander Bothwell and Ruby McCart Bothwell. Mac retired from the United States Air Force in 1975 and from Tinker Air Force Base in 1995. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, he was a flight engineer on G-130, C-123, and C-47 aircraft. Mac served several tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Air Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters for that service. While employed at Tinker Air force Base, Mac worked in the KC-135 fuel section and was recognized as a “Top Gun” for his “can-do attitude which generated enthusiasm among his fellow workers.” He was especially proud of his “Zero Sick Leave” awards. Mac met and married his wife Cheryl Ann Matherly while stationed at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, New York.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Woodrow, Forrest, Fred; sister, Ruby; and brother-in-law, David Bradley Matherly. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his son, James, wife Shelley, and granddaughters, Mackenzie and Libby of Yukon; daughter, Jennifer Fleming, husband Bobby, and granddaughter Paige of Midwest City; daughter, Kathy Stewart, husband Dennis, and grandchildren, Deanna, Ryan, and Jason of Fort Morgan, CO; daughter, Maxine Stickley, husband Jimmy, and granddaughter Amanda of Brush, CO; sister, Ruth Schultz and husband Edward of Enid, OK; sister, Juanita Correll of Enid, OK; and brother-in-law, John Anthony of Phillipsburg, NJ.
Mac was an energetic man who loved working in the yard or garage and never was afraid to tackle any project. Mac loved the Sooners and was excited about the coming season. Mac loved to travel, especially to Sooner’s games. He loved his little dog Rosie and tolerated her antics. But his favorite activity was anything that involved being with his granddaughters, Mackenzie, Paige, and Libby.
Mac met his challenges of recent years with courage and a smile. He never fretted over the treatments or his infirmities. He made many friends of other patients and his doctors and shared his smile with others during his long journey and many doctor visits.
We want to thank the many doctors who treated Mac (especially Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Dickey), the nurses and staff of Quality Hospice, Destiny of Visiting Angels, and his long-time caregiver and dear friend Bonnie Bashara. And a very special “thank you” to the church family at Country Estates Baptist Church and the wonderful members of the J.O.Y. Class for their prayers, love, and many acts of kindness. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Country Estates Baptist Church with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
