Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Adams, was born August 11, 1944 to Dr. Hopson Ned and Julia Jesse (Wallace) Burleson, in Prague, OK, and passed from this earth on January 24, 2019, leaving behind loved ones she cherished and a wealth of friends. After graduating from OU with a Bachelors in Sociology, and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta, she moved to Oklahoma City where she met and married her love and partner Daniel D. Adams Jr. They spent 51 wonderful years together, only apart once while Dan was on tour in Viet-Nam. Together they raised two sons, Dan who married Carolyn and gave her grandchildren, Elissa and Zach; and Scott who married Aimee and gave her a 3rd grandchild Dane.
The youngest of four, Beth adored her brothers David and Mike M.D., and her sister Margaret, and loved spending time with her 10 nieces and nephews, and in turn their children. An incredibly outgoing and gregarious woman, she made an art of cultivating friendships throughout her life. Music was always important to her. She played the piano and clarinet growing up, and loved to sing. As a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she sang and held many offices in the choir, and played in the hand bell choir over 29 years. She also loved singing with the Canterbury Choral Society over 15 years.
Beth had a curious spirit, a fearless attitude in trying new things, and made a number of very close friends through her various activities over the years. She was very involved in a variety of clubs including her book club, garden club, Tarpley Tappers, Art Renaissance, Oklahoma Art League, Lyric Theatre Guild, Junior League, and Civic Music Association. Beth was also very engaged in helping young children. In addition to the numerous volunteer activities in which she served at her children’s schools, she was proud to spend over 15 years tutoring at Spark- an after school program helping mentor and develop young children from Horace Mann Elementary.
Beth’s life centered around trying to make her community a better place by volunteering her time, helping others, philanthropic giving, and making many, many close and loving friends along the way.
Beth: “Did I mention, spending time with my grandchildren is my greatest joy?”
