On February 6, 1926 Martha Louise Hall was born to Inez (Spears) and John Sanders in Cleveland, OK and passed away on September 4, 2024 as a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She attended the Nazarene Church as a young girl in Bartlesville, OK and in other towns and countries throughout her life, continuously acknowledging Jesus as her Savior. During a trip to Tacoma, Washington with friends, while driving around in the evening she met a handsome service man who had just been discharged after the Korean War. Needless to say, Ausley and Martha became smitten with each other and they were married three weeks later in 1953 and they enjoyed a life to the fullest together for 46 years.
Martha’s greatest joy was her son, Brent, pouring her love into him for almost 70 years. It’s been said she would meet him at the back door for a period of time in his life, letting him know her disapproval of his actions (never of him) and lovingly voicing redirection, guidance and prayers for him. The love and admiration went both ways, as evidenced by his enduring love and care for her.
The majority of her work life was spent with the US Government for 45 years, first at the US Bureau of Mines in Bartlesville, OK, then in the US Geological Survey in Tallahassee, FL, and finally ending up as the first female US Customs Inspector in the State of Oklahoma licensed to pack heat! She soon discovered the only ammunition she needed was her big smile and those twinkly eyes. She loved traveling to the far parts of the world experiencing the cultures of so many of her Customs customers, and visiting church missionaries she met, even taking her grandson, Dustin, as her travel partner to Swaziland. Martha & Ausley shared God’s love and joy with everyone across the world, whether it was sponsoring foreign college students, providing a place to stay or visiting their country, they were so blessed by the friends God placed in their life.
The love of the beach and ocean pulled her back often to Tallahassee, Florida to be with Ausley’s family and their friends after moving to Oklahoma. She cheered for OU football until there was a Noles game to watch with her family, she loved football talk over the phone with nieces and nephews back in Florida. Her adventurous, loving and welcoming spirit drew people to join in on whatever fun she was dishing up. Children was such a joy throughout her life, intentionally engaging with them before any adults wherever she went, and they all loved her too.
Her love of music started at a young age and developed into singing on the radio with her sisters as the Sanders Sisters Trio. Anywhere they gathered for years to come, a song was sure to burst forth in sweet harmony showing their love of music and each other.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ausley Hall, parents Inez and John Sanders, siblings Lorene, Charles, John Dale and Betty.
She is survived by her beloved son, Ausley “Brent” Hall and wife Karen of Crescent, OK, Grandson Dustin Todd Hall of Oklahoma City, OK and brother Lloyd Sanders and wife Mary of Oklahoma City, OK and numerous nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends.
