Margaret Ann “Margie” (Aspy) Peeler, 74, of Edmond, Oklahoma died on March 4, 2011 at her home. She was born on June 20, 1936 in North Bell Vernon, Pennsylvania the daughter of Benjamin and Alda Aspy. She was given the nickname “Dutch” at an early age by her father and it followed her the rest of her life.
The first half of her childhood she was raised in Pennsylvania, then around the age of 12 her father transferred to Okmulgee, Oklahoma to work in a new glass factory. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1954. Later she met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Joe H. Peeler on March 24, 1957 in the Methodist Church of Guthrie, Oklahoma. From this union they were blessed with 3 children; Jody, David and Darren. Later they were blessed with their almost adopted son Knute Keeling who lived with the Peeler family during his high school and college years.
Before marriage she moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for Hilton Hotels. While married she worked as an executive assistant for the senior vice president of TG&Y stores for many years and also worked for American Fidelity. She was a very intelligent woman not only in the business world but at home using her talents to manage and help her family. From helping her husband solve challenges involved with his job to helping her children complete homework and school projects, Margie always took time for her family whenever they needed her.
She was a member of the Rainbow Girl Dance club as a child, the Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Sigma Kappa Mom, the Edmond Youth Council, charter member of the Edmond Recreational Youth Soccer program, and very active in her children’s sports and activities. She enjoyed bridge, dancing, music, singing, solving problems and helping her friends and family in times of need. She will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her husband Joe of the home, daughter Jody Smith and husband Shawn of Edmond, son David Peeler and wife Carol of Edmond, Oklahoma and son Darren Peeler and wife Angie of Russell, Kansas; extended family member Knute Keeling and his wife Nikki and their daughters Cameron and Kianna Keeling; brother Benny Aspy and wife Sharon of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren Kelsey Peeler, Danae Smith, Shane Smith, Dylan Peeler, Megan Peeler and Charlee Peeler.
She was preceded in death by her parents and foster brother Al Troop.
A memorial service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, located at 1001 S. Rankin St. of Edmond, with Pastor Dale DePue officiating. Family will greet guest before and after the memorial service. A private family burial of her ashes will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials be given to the Ronald McDonald House Charities and sent in care of the mortuary.
