Mack Robert Ames went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2015. He was born May 2, 1957 and was cherished and loved by his family, friends, and those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Kim, who he always described as “simply amazing.” We are all so grateful for the graceful and courageous way she attended to Mack’s every need during the last months of his life. He is also survived by his daughters and son-in-law Blair and Andrew Rische of Houston, Erin Ames of Oklahoma City, and his brothers and their families Dr. Scott and Hari Lu Ames of Tulsa, and Brett and Carol Ames of Austin. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Bettye and Perry Ames.
A 1975 graduate of Heritage Hall, Mack went on to get his BBA from The University of Oklahoma; he was a passionate Sooner fan. He started his career as a Landman at Inexco Oil Co. in Houston, Texas. He later returned to Oklahoma where he worked for 27 years at Anadarko Minerals as a partner and Vice-President. Mack loved to snow ski, coach his daughters in softball, and enjoyed going to OU football games, but nothing compared to his love of motorcycles. He loved to ride in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Colorado on one of his Yamahas and made some wonderful life long friends along the way. Above all, Mack valued and cherished his family. He was a supportive and loving father, husband, brother, and friend. Mack always had a quick wit and a smile on his face. It didn’t matter what he was doing - he was the one having the most fun, and finding a way to make everyone laugh.
The strength and courage that Mack showed in the last months of his life exemplified the way he lived his life. He truly was more concerned about his wife, daughters, and family than he was himself. One of the best ways to describe Mack’s life was one of his final thoughts: “I have done more in my 58 years than most people would have done in 108 years.” We will miss you Mack and the love we have for you will always inspire us to live life like you did, with passion, humor, and grace. See you on the other side and God Bless.
A memorial service to celebrate Mack’s life will be held at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church Friday, May 29th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation. www.garysinisefoundation.org
