Logan K. Wright-Newmark, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died December 4, 2014 at 2:20am in the Mercy Heart Hospital, Oklahoma City, surrounded by her family. She was born August 21, 1950, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of the late Winnefred and Joe Wright. On July 8, 1994 she married Hank Newmark, who survives.
Logan graduated from Oklahoma State University with an Education Degree and earned a Masters in Special Education from the University of Central Oklahoma, followed by a 29 year career as a teacher in the Oklahoma City Public School District. Logan was forced to retire from teaching due to suffering congestive heart failure. She battled back from near death and enjoyed many years of good health during her retirement before her heart failure again became more acute, requiring frequent hospital stays and ultimately taking her life. In her last decade of life, Logan also suffered with severe arthritis in her neck that caused constant pain and the consequences of a major stomach surgery that put her in intensive care for six weeks and required three months of rehabilitation.
Through-out all of Logan’s Health Challenges and pain, she continued to be the warm, loving person that her friends and family knew her to be. She found no greater joy than to help others in need. And she was that special teacher who her students remembered. Throughout her retirement years, when she was at the mall or other public places, young adults would approach her, introduce themselves, and tell “Ms. Wright” that she was their favorite teacher. Logan touched the hearts of several young adults who were not related but looked to her as a mother figure. She also took special joy in her relationship with life-long friend Linda, who Logan considered to be her sister and was at her side when she passed away.
Logan was an avid sports fan and ardent supporter of Oklahoma State sports, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed cooking and picking out produce at the farmers market. She was a fan of classic country music and enjoyed watching the Food Channel. Her beloved shih tzu Nikki was her constant companion. Logan and her husband Hank enjoyed taking weekend trips to Stillwater, Dallas and Houston and having dinner at their favorite restaurants around Oklahoma City. But they most enjoyed quiet times together at home in their master bedroom watching television at the table at the foot of their bead.
Logan is survived by her husband Hank, daughter Dru, son Craig, grandsons Harrison and Carson, dog Nikki and cat Bam. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Winnefred Wright, her brother Terry and son Scott.
The graveside service is 10:00am Thursday, December 11 at Memorial Park cemetery in Oklahoma City, preceded by a viewing at Guardian West funeral home, Oklahoma City, on Wednesday, December 10.
