Karen Diane Mason, 73, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2022 after her long battle with COPD and Pulmonary Fibrosis. Karen was a strong Christian and the knowledge that she would be made whole once more in Heaven gave her the greatest peace and comfort in her final days.
Ms. Mason was born on July 4, 1949, in Lawrence, Kansas to Fred and Mary Nell Mason. Sadly, Mary Nell Mason passed away when Karen was a young child. Her father, Fred, remarried and Karen gained a loving mother and sister in Lee and Patricia; her love for each of them was profound.
Karen graduated from Putnam City High School in 1967 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She taught in the Putnam City School District for over 35 years as a Gifted and Talented specialist and loved watching her students blossom throughout their elementary years. Students would often recognize her outside of the classroom and comment on how much they loved having her as their teacher. It filled her heart with joy to know the impact she had on each of them.
Two of the greatest days of Karen’s life was when she became a Mimi to Sean Michael Sabatino and Joseph Andrew Sabatino. They were her pride and joy, and she loved every second she got to spend with them.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Fred Lee Mason, Mary Nell Mason and Lee Mason, along with many Aunts, Uncles, and dear friends.
She is survived by her daughter Alicia (Michael) Sabatino, sister Patricia (David) Wirth, niece Leighann (John) Braswell and their son Cole, nephew Andy (Christy) Wirth, beloved grandsons Sean and Joseph Sabatino, as well as many special friends who Karen considered to be part of her family.
She had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and special, and will be greatly missed by many.
Services will be held on 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 N. Broadway Ext., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Karen’s name to the Free to Live Sanctuary, 9150 S Western Ave, Guthrie, OK 73044.
