Jurl Houston Welchel, Sr., 71, passed away March 18, 2013 at his home in Choctaw, OK. Born March 14, 1942 in Chickasha, OK. to Chattie Houston and Iva B. Welchel. He was a commercial roofer who was involved in all aspects of roofing and was named The Roofing Industries Most Valuable Player in 2002 by the National Roofing Contractors Association. He was retired from Alva Roofing Co. He was an avid bowler and sports fan, loved hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kim Reeves, and great-granddaughter Kynlee Welchel. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Vicki of the home; son, Jurl H. Welchel Jr. and wife Eva, of Meeker; daughters, Kelly and husband Alan Horton of MWC; Jennifer and husband Tom Holland of Harrah; and Penny Brown of OKC; brothers, Don, Dale, and Dennis Welchel; sisters, Christine Perkins and Nancy O’Hagan, and brother-in-law, Mike Swanson and wife Jackie, 8 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
