Born in Flushing, New York in 1946, John grew up with his
older brother Frank, and his younger sister Margaret in
Summit, New Jersey and later in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
While attending Ripon College in Wisconsin, he met his future
wife, Susan Dorothy Robinson, and after serving as a Captain
in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, they married in 1970. They
welcomed their sons, Nick and Peter, in 1972 and 1975,
respectively. John attained his Juris Doctor from the
University of Oklahoma, and began his 40-year career as an
attorney with the law firm of McAfee and Taft, with 5 years
as Managing Director. He specialized in civil litigation, and
advocated for children of parents in dispute through his work
with Oklahoma Lawyers for Families and Children. John was
inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, as well
as being included in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers
USA’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and

Church where John was a Deacon, an Elder, and a Sunday School
teacher. He was a voracious reader and avid golfer, and loved
traveling with family and friends. John lost Susan to cancer
in 2016. He married Cynthia Cortright in 2019 and they
traveled, hosted gatherings, and loved each other until his
passing. John is survived by his wife Cynthia, his sons Nick
and Peter, his grandchildren Bryon and Davis, his sister and
brother Margaret and Frank, and his nephews and niece, Marc
Ryan, Erik, and Keli. Services will be held on November 8th
