Joe “Louis” Toliver was born September 30, 1935 in Enid, Oklahoma to Jackson Toliver, Sr. and Laura Belcher Toliver. His parents, sister, Hazel Toliver and brothers, Jackson Toliver, Jr. and Cleophus Toliver preceded him in death.
Louis accepted Jesus as his personal savior at an early age. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Enid, Oklahoma and joined the Air Force after graduation where he served in Casablanca, Morocco and Roswell, New Mexico. Upon his discharge from his military service, he enjoyed a career as an exceptional commercial welder.
Louis moved to California where he met his future wife, Mary Wilson, and they became the proud parents of one daughter, Michelle Pennerman, and one son, Rev. Roderick Toliver, Sr.
Louis loved to dance, and was excellent at doing so! He also enjoyed fishing with his family! In addition, he enjoyed going to the casino, where he frequently left with good winnings using the casino free play money! Louis’ quiet spirit was a great blessing to many and he was a faithful member of the Toliver family meetings and events and was always generous with his time and resources to help family and friends in need.
Louis leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Michelle Pennerman, his son, Rev. Roderick Toliver, Sr. (Grace), his grandsons, Roderick Toliver, Jr. and Jordan Toliver all of Vallejo, California, his sisters Jacquelyn Luckett of Missouri City, Texas, Beatrice Hazley and Betty Mack (Stewart) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lorean Droke of Okeene, Oklahoma, his brother Jowayne Toliver of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
