Joe Carmen Davis was born on March 6, 1922, in Deertrail, Colorado. He grew up near Dewey, Oklahoma and in Ottawa, Kansas. Joe was the last living of five children born to Frank and Ruth Davis. He passed away November 7, 2020. After graduating from Ottawa High School in 1940, Joe moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked for Boeing. Joe began flying in 1942 and in 1944 he volunteered for the US Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet and served until his Honorable Discharge at Sheppard Field, Texas, in 1945. He earned his FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate in 1945 and his A/P Mechanic Certificate in 1946. On September 5, 1948, Joe married Dorothy Geraldine Morton and they spent the next 71 years together, until Dorothy’s death on January 20, 2020. Joe worked as a crop duster for 39 years without an accident. He accumulated over 10,000 flight hours in an aviation career that spanned more than 40 years. Upon retiring from flying, Joe turned to teaching at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He felt right at home there, having graduated from Spartan in 1946. Joe and Dorothy moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, in 1995.
Joe is survived by his son, Joe D. and wife Lori of Denver, CO; one beloved granddaughter, Alexandra Carmen Davis; and daughter, Rebecca Jacobsen and husband Jake of Puyallup, WA.
