Joe L. Akins, 76 year-old resident of Midwest City, OK, passed away February 6, 2014 in MWC, OK. Born March 26, 1937 in Hope, AR, he was the son of Jones and Myrtle (Duncan Akins. Joe was a retired Sgt. First Class in the U. S. Army. He was a veteran of Vietnam and a former supervisor at the Ft. Sill Commissary. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Joe enjoyed fishing and traveling but especially spending time with his grandchildren. He loved taking them fishing and was active in their sports, both as a spectator and as an Asst. coach and mentor. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Charles and George; 1 sister, Sue Kelly; and 1 grandson, Bryson Hobbs. Survivors include his wife Marva Akins of the home; 1 daughter, Evette (Jesse) Lewis of Tyler, TX; 2 sons, Orlando Jackson of MWC, OK; and Charles (Tonya) Jackson of Edmond, OK; 5 grandchildren, Laban & Isaiah Lewis; Malik and Jayla Jackson; and Zanariah Haynes; 1 sister, Versie (James) Wilson of Ft. Worth, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel with burial to follow Military Honors at 2:00 p.m. at Ft. Sill National Cemetery that afternoon. Arrangements are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
