Jimmie “LaVerne” Kimmell, 97, of Garland, Texas passed away on the 10th of May 2018. She was born in the community known as Burnett, Oklahoma that is now Macomb. Her early school years were in St. Louis, OK and she finished high school at Capitol Hill in OKC, OK.
LaVerne worked for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City during World War II. She installed electrical wiring and later was a riveter working on the C-47 Skytrain airplanes. Over the next 20 years or so after the war, mom worked as an insurance underwriter for the Hartford, Fireman’s Fund, and Travellers insurance companies. She later was hired as a civil service worker at Tinker Air Force Base where she retired in the seventies.
She was survived by daughter, Fern Docekal; son, Gary Jones and wife Linda; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and, 5 great-great grandchildren at last count.
In her retirement years she liked to oil paint, give piano lessons, take long walks with her Chihuahua Angel, and research family history. Laverne had a real passion for genealogy and has spent countless hours of research on the family tree.

The family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
